Heroes

I’ve been watching the series since it was first released in America, and wow, what can I say? They say it’s the show which saved NBC and after just watching episode nine… wow, I have to believe they are right.

It’s put a new standard on modern day drama, at least for me.

AusAID

So I was playing Pool as I normally do for a past-time at TAFE and saw a poster for AUS AID, particularly promoting the Youth Ambassador Program. After reading, I think it’s a very interesting program to undertake, I might consider it sometime, not soon though.

Reasons why?

  • It looks good in a resume.
  • It’s a paid experience to work overseas.
  • It’ll help my Portfolio for University.
  • It’ll go towards my thing for being a Diplomat.

Interesting indeed, wonder if I’ll take it up.

Wordpress

Well, after the insistance of Paul to change to Wordpress because it “pwns” a while ago. I have finally moved and I must say it’s much nicer and crisp looking. Had to add the Bad-Behaviour Plugin because within several minutes of me converting from Nucleus and updating to 2.0.5, I had 31 spam comments. Haha. Funtimes indeed.

On other notes, last year I dedicated alot of time both proofreading and minor translating/editing Ryuusoul’s work on the Tsukihime English Translation Project done by both mirrormoon and Revolve Translations. The good news is the game has finished being translated, and a english patch has been released and I’ve been credited. Awesome stuff, indeed!

Oh, and I finish my Diploma course in two weeks, god how I hope I pass the exams and hand in the assignments on time.

R.I.P Patty

You know, the next time I was going to update this blog, I swore it would recap everything which has happened since last entry. But screw it, this is much more important to me.

Patty
To a friend, companion and a pet;
Someone who was always the loyal;
Someone who deserves great happiness;
Which hopefully I’ll be able to share in;
When we meet again.
Rest in Peace, Patty (1992-2006).

At 8:00 PM. Tuesday the 17th of October, Patty was humanely put down due to having lodged in her throat. She was found earlier today after disappearing two days ago, and the Vet was contacted to look at her, alas there was nothing which could be done and it was obvious she was suffering. It’d be a lie if I was to say this wasn’t both a tremendous loss to our household, and she’ll be missed surely.

No Internet For Me

Switching to iinet for my ISP. Eventually had to do it unfortunately. TPG was promising to upgrade the Liverpool Exchange to ADSL2+ since March, however they dropped it from their DSLAM Rollout without any notice or explanation (Cheers TPG).

You may think that my ISP transfer might be solely based on getting a better speed, while this is partially correct, it isn’t completely right. You see, I use to be on TPG’s 1.5Mbit Plan with 20GB a month for a measly fifty dollars a month, true it was a plan too good to be true, but it lasted a while, I was on it for a little over a year. When they dropped it, purporting to Telstra’s price-hike on wholesale prices to ISPs, they had Liverpool on their Rollout, and I thought “Hey, I only have to be on another of their plans for a month or two and then I can get ADSL2+! For cheaper too!” So with that I choose TPG’s 1.5Mbit, 25GB, for $69.95.

The Plan was fine, but when the sole reason I was on it disappeared without a trace then I swore that I would switch ISPs unless it somehow miraculously appeared again. So here I am about to switch to iinet for $60 with VoIP, waiting for TPG to drop me as it was due to be cancelled on the 10th, so iinet can pick me up. (Really a shame that you can’t churn to ADSL2+).

I probably would have gone with Internode had they serviced my area, but ah well, beggars can’t be choosers. As someone currently in tune with the ISP community, I can honestly say that iinet offer the best packages out there at the moment.

I mean, for $60 you get:

* Up to 24Mbit Speed.
* 21 GB (7GB onpeak / 14 off)
* VoIP
* 30MB web space (Beats TPG’s 10MB)
* Back up dialup account (Something alot of ISPs Lack)

My Ex-Plan was:

* 1.5Mbit Speed
* 20 GB
* 10MB Web Space

A significant difference. Well worth the price, it has my approval.

Well done, TPG, well done.

Get this, I had setup a cancellation of my TPG ADSL account on the 2nd of Augest and this was processed on the 4th according to the email sent back. My account is suppose to be cancelled on the 10th of September, I chose this date due to two reasons.

1. It is a mandatory requirement to give TPG, a 30 day notice.
2. My current Billing Cycle ends on the 11th of September.

With that in mind, there’s no possible way TPG would bill me for the next billing cycle even though I have set a cancellation before that, right? Wrong. TPG billed me for $69.95 today for next month, which shouldn’t have happened at all..

So I decided to ring TPG, oh how I love how it’s call centre moved to the Phillipines, and didn’t have to hold long fortunately. I spoke to someone and told them the details, and after a long hold, she told me she’ll send an email to the billing department and that I’ll be refunded after my cancellation has taken place on the 10th, which will require 3-10 days to be refunded. So I have to wait a possible maximum of 15 days to get refunded for something they shouldn’t have taken out? They took out money they didn’t need for a non-existant billing cycle, out of my bank account which I Did need?

All I can say is well done, TPG, well done. This might make my switch to Iinet more problematic, financially.

Whoah, New Post

I'm literally suprised, I didn't realise that it's been nearly a month since my last entry.

Regardless, what's been happening with the life of Brett?

Not alot really. I've been playing Poker and now get within the top twenty five of the people playing. I've been getting closer to previously-stated girl, always beneficial. I've been playing BF1942 again, classic game and recently my clan Black Angels have won the GameArena finals, props to all of them.

I've also been playing old Japanese games for some reason. Overall, that's what I've been up to.

Oh, I'm been doing PERL as well, and well my knowledge in that has been increasing fairly well.

Poker Night

So I just got home from a Poker Game organised by Poker Masters and didn't go that good really; out of 97 players, I was the 8th person eliminated. Game was standard Texas Hold 'em. Guess I'll have to brush-up on my gameplay, I'm too aggressive and at one stage of the game I had at least 1/4th of the chips on the table.

Ah well, I need to get back into Poker. My friend who I went with, became 15th out of the 97th, so top 20. Congratulations Man.

Exciting Week.

So here I am, sitting in the Library at North Sydney Institute of TAFE, waiting for my “programming” class. Started the second week of TAFE today, doing Cisco-related modules pertaining to the OSI Layers. Something I've covered before, but eh, that's fine. I just want tonight to be over. A 12 hour day sure is tiring; I just hope I can survive the 16 upcoming weeks of it.

Anyway, as for my week from the last post, not much has happened. Monday-Wednesday I was at TAFE. Thursday and Friday, I went with two of my friends and we did some geeky stuff relating to Warhammer 40,000.

On Saturday? Now there's a story. I joined up with my friends to go to someone's birthday party, whom they knew. I can't say I've been to such a great party in years. Plenty of Alcohol, Drugs and Rock & Roll, well not really. Although there was plenty of Alcohol. I played pool with a few people I met there and socialised quite a bit with people whom I haven't met before. I met this one girl, who is literally amazing; she's intelligent, witty and very attractive. However, there are circumstances present which prevented me from asking her out. However, I really really hope I can meet this girl again, because I feel there could be something there.

Back to hitting the books

Alright, so here I am home again. I'm successfully enrolled at North Sydney, just needed to do as a transfer form as I thought, silly confusing teachers.

The course there looks alright, there's about 26 people. Which will be divided into two classes, A and B. The timetables are drastically different. There's A and B, which did I choose? B of course! There's several points behind my reasoning on this.

1. I'll have to do 6-9 on Monday regardless of which group, to catch up on Programming Modules. The way I see it, if I'm doing a 9-9 day on Monday. Then I might as well do 1-9 and then 10-9.
2. More Time/Days to myself to work, relax or study on.
3. I miss Peak hour on the way home. While Peak hour is annoying on the way there, it's worse on the way back, and I'd like to Y'know sit down instead of being cramped, standing, aboard a train for an hour and a half.
4. Apparently we get better teachers then as well. Although I can't confirm this as of yet.
5. 95% of the 26 Students chose A. Meaning it's doubtful I'd get in.

Did a Class today, Cisco one, basically just played around with a few Routers, running several commands on them. But yeah, chances are my friend James (Subby), will probably do B as well.
