I type this from the same place I did my last entry, and will depart in four hours to go to Southern Cross station for Skybus. I’ve throughly enjoyed my trip to Victoria, spending time with Paul, attending MixOnCampus and Paul and Natalie’s wedding. Probably one of my more eventful trips of the year, and one I look back on fondly.
I’m still exhausted, literally. But I know once I get back to Sydney and get some rest that I’ll feel better. I’ll be on DJ881, Departing Tullamarine Terminal 3, at 6:45pm and arriving in Sydney at Terminal 2 at 8:05pm. Of course, whether that actually happens within that set out time-frame is something completely different.
Annnnyway, when I get home, I might have to do a rebuild on my PC, thanks to someone stuffing it at a LAN about two weeks back, I haven’t had time to fix it, but the issue, now, is that Vista boots into an Install. I think this is related to me trying to install XP onto an external hard drive, in an attempt to backup things on the C:\ drive, the original issue was that the Vista Bootloader 2.21 wouldn’t execute properly. I’m going to look into the Boot.ini and see if I can change the startup Parameters to see if it will boot Vista normally, so I won’t need to go through a reformat.
As I type this, I am currently in my Mother’s Bedroom after finally getting to Frankston from Drouin. I should take this opportunity to laugh at Will and his lack of Internet, but in reality, I do sympathize with him, when he’s not with his strippers at the Royal Hotel.
After helping the preparation of Paul’s and Natalie’s Wedding, I was hoping that the actual wedding day would turn out fabulous — It did, far pass my expectations, it was sunny, not too hot and a cool breeze blew through out the morning. I met many of the Bride and Groom’s relatives and friends. And spent a great deal hanging around both Will and Ryan, the Best man. The wedding was the first I went to, but was absolutely beautiful thanks to the lovely work of the equally beautiful bridesmaids.
The day was fantastic, and I can only stress that I can not properly describe what I thought of the wedding, you’ll have to wait for the photographs once Will’s worked on 4GB+ worth of them. Natalie in a wedding dress was utterly stunning and Paul was quite the bridegroom. Quite the day, and I’m literally exhausted. Although I do have Natalie’s Garter due to my leet garter catching skills. (The real reason being due to only three or four of us, including Ryan, actually going to catch it, unlike the ten plus women for the bouquet catch.)
Of course, I’m still stuck with the actual wedding in my head, but besides being in Drouin since Wednesday, helping out with the wedding and sleeping in a Cabin with Paul, I was in Lilydale (Paul’s place) since Bucks Night. During that time, I did go see Mix on Campus which was an enjoyable experience.
Some of the actual presentations were long and drawn out, but overall most were enjoyable. Especially Nick Hodge’s presentation of Microsoft’s popfly, which while impractical is an interesting mash-up technology. (It was nice finally meeting you, Nick) I think the whole event has made me want to touch XNA very badly, and will be something I will do when I arrive back in Sydney.
Anyway, that’s enough of a post. Blessed be Natalie and Paul and may they enjoy their secret honeymoon, and I hope they have eternal happiness, because they make a damn good couple which only a few can dare attempt to emulate. Thanks for inviting me, and giving me honour as a groomsman. I tried to live up to the expectations as much as I could, and do as much as possible as I could to help out and make the wedding an easier one. I hope you guys had a great day. You both deserved it.
Well, this should be a rather long post. Where have I been off to? Well, not far really.
I got laid off by The Byron Group after three weeks of work.
Why? Well, the reasons they gave me to explain why the fired me didn’t make sense and were wrong. Basically, they accused me of “snooping” though documents, that I was late one day (Whereas I really came 27 minutes early…), and so forth. But as someone said to me, it’s good that they showed their true colours before I got sucked in too much. Oh well, I enjoyed working there, even if I did know more then my boss.
Gave up on German.
As stated on an earlier post, I knew once I got the job, that I’d have to give German the wave, even after I got fired, it would have been stupid to go back to it. So I did the first half, and missed out the last eight weeks. I got my academic transcript though and got competent on 2 of the 3 modules… Makes me wonder how good I was going in the course. German’s a pretty easy language to get the hang of, and I probably will go back to doing it at some point in time.
Had to pass on ReMix Australia and Paul & Nat’s engagement party.
Yes well, several reasons came up before it was held. My grandfather not feeling well, I had to enroll for a new semester at TAFE, and my financial status was just enough to get me to and from Melbourne due to some clients not paying me. But although I hate the fact I missed the party, there’s not much I could’ve done really.
Now doing a course in Mandarin dialect of Chinese.
I was finally able to enroll into the course, and although the language isn’t as easy as German, I think if I commit myself to it and buy various teaching aids, I’ll be able to grasp it particularly well.
As Will posted in his journal, I also got to meet-up with him in Sydney, which is always fun, for Yum-Cha and the Simpsons Movie.
Indeed, apparently I’m 21 today, I don’t really feel that much older through.
Well Ladies and Gentlemen…. I got the job. I now work for The Byron Group as an IT Assistant. (I know, not a Snazzy Title.) I’ll only be working 3 days a week, 8 and a half hour days, but I think I’ll be able to manage it.
Unfortunately, the downside is that I won’t be able to do German anymore because there’s no way I’ll be able to get from Milperra to Ultimo in an hour via Public Transport. But honestly, money is more valuable currently.
The heading speaks truth, I noticed a job offer on Seek, about a Part Time IT assistant. It’ll be three days a week, and the duties of the job and skills required I fulfil quite well.
I submitted an application today via Fax because their email was having issues and was called back a few hours after submitting it arranging a job interview tomorrow at 10am. I’ll post how I went with it once I’ve done it.

Hi Brett,
Unfortunately its true. We’ve recieved word from the UK that the position that we wished to fill is now part of another job. JIM |
As some of you may know, I applied for the position of Web Co-Ordinator at Games Workshop Australia. I was scheduled to have an interview tomorrow at 10am, the previous 2+ months, I have been trying to build my confidence of getting the position and been getting some base working knowledge of ASP.NET.
Just half an hour ago, I recieved a phone call from a woman who stated she worked at Games Workshop and stated the following:
“I know you and Jim [Hobby Support Manager] had scheduled an interview tomorrow, but Games Workshop has changed it’s strategy and incorporating the position of Web Co-Ordinator with another role thus we are no longer recruiting for the position. Jim talked highly of you, and he shall keep your details on record for the next six months.”
See, I am let down, because I thought I was more then capable dealing with the site, updating it’s content, etc. But I do find it a tad rude to call me one day before the interview to tell me “Oh wait, we’re no longer interested, Bye.”
I’ve sent an email to Jim just for confirmation, to see what happens, but yeah disappointed for sure.
You know, the next time I was going to update this blog, I swore it would recap everything which has happened since last entry. But screw it, this is much more important to me.

At 8:00 PM. Tuesday the 17th of October, Patty was humanely put down due to having lodged in her throat. She was found earlier today after disappearing two days ago, and the Vet was contacted to look at her, alas there was nothing which could be done and it was obvious she was suffering. It’d be a lie if I was to say this wasn’t both a tremendous loss to our household, and she’ll be missed surely.
